DFI 9

Today we had a quick look at google classrooms , in my honest opinion I don't think I would use this with my class as I find google sites are a lot easier for myself and for my students to navigate.
We also sat our google exam and I passed!!

Overall I have thoroughly enjoyed these sessions and have learnt so many useful tools that I can now implement in my classroom and share with colleagues

DFI 3

In week 3 of DFI I unfortunately had to leave early due to a family emergency.
However I did look and reflect back on other peoples blogs.
The session was on creating.
Creating is important to cater for the different needs of all the learners in your classroom.
A key piece of information that I gained from looking at other peoples blogs is that the learning needs to take place for the creativity to happen.

I have tried to implement this into my own classroom teaching I use a google slide deck on my class site on the slides I have made them multi modal .
I have also learnt how to make follow up activities on google draw as opposed to giving a generic worksheet this allows for the students to insert their own creativity.

I have also experimented with making playlists on youtube to channel to monitor and guide the students on the internet.

What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa today - specifically empowerment?
I enjoyed the korero on empowerment today it was very relatable coming from a low decile school with students in our school community who may be not empowered and gave me ideas of how to reach them

What did I learn that could be used with my learners?
Today we "played" with a number of different digital tools that are engaging and can be used in the classroom I saw an easy and achievable way to use stop motion and movie maker in the classroom
There were many coding ideas that I would like to try with my learners that are both unplugged and and using devices.

DFI 7

What did I learn that increased my understanding of being connected with Manaiakalani’s kaupapa and pedagogy?
Connected learning-using class blogging as a platform to build connections with the wider world schools, communities and nationwide sharing
Students are learning to be cybersmart through leaving quality blog comments
Teaching ideas made easier through these connections- easy to see and gain ideas from other teachers and schools across the cluster and throughout manaiakalani
Learning that is visible
Face to face opportunities to connect

What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional?
Dealing with data
google forms and using spreadsheets.
I really enjoyed google forms and am really looking forward to using this in my class I think it will be a good tool to get students ready for online assessments and for solidifying learning at the end of a topic. I found it really easy to use and  I think my students will enjoy this.

What did I learn that could be used with my learners?
Overall the google forms is a useful tool that I can use with my learners. In the past I have found that online assessment results are a lot lower than if they did it on paper, so I think if students were able to become more skilled in reading texts online and answering questions they would be more successful.

What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my personal life?
Using spreadsheets will help me to organise and collate data for assessments etc and knowing all the shortcuts and features make things quicker and simpler.

Manaiakalani kaupapa, pedagogy and enabling access/ visible learning?
Making learning visible enable students to have another port of call  when they miss their instructions or while im working with a group. Enables students to access their learning at home as well as parents.

What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional?
Today I focused on making my class site more user friendly for my students and for parents I did this because i felt like my site last term was very hard to navigate students weren't showing student agency and i was spending a lot of my time navigating and showing my students what to do as a whole class and neglecting my group teaching and explicit teaching. I am very happy with how my site had turned out now i am using slides so the learning is rewindable i have tried to make it visibly appealing and multi modal I have learnt how to produce a "worksheet" or reading response on google drawings instead of having loads of paper. this is going to make planning quicker and easier as it is all in one place and also less paper and photocopying .

What did I learn that could be used with my learners?
My site is now easily accessible to my learners. I have discovered new online resources that i can use with my students learning. I am hoping that my new set up will make my students more independent and able to access their learning without me having to do step by step instructions.

What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my personal life?
My new setup of my site includes my planning so that i am not doubling up on planning and adding to my site it is all in one place all I have to do is duplicate the slide and enter in the new weeks learning focus i think that this is going to be a lot easier and less time consuming to plan.
